In an effort to recognize significant contributions made to the business information profession, Beta Alpha Psi honors worthy individuals. From 1974 through 1999, this was achieved by recognizing them as Accountants of the Year. Beginning with the 2000 awards, this will be achieved by honoring deserving individuals as a Business Information Professional of the Year.

Each local chapter, the National Council, and the National Advisory Forum are invited to nominate candidates from the fields of professional services, education and industry or government. Nominees are individuals who have affected a large number of lives, contributed both locally and nationally to the profession, added to knowledge as demonstrated through publications, lectures or presentations, and must be active in the profession at the time of nomination.

For 2000, Beta Alpha Psi is proud to announce the selection of the following persons for the Business Information Professional of the Year Awards:

     INDUSTRY & GOVERNMENT

Bruce Rohde
Bruce Rohde is chairman and chief executive officer of ConAgra, Inc. He joined ConAgra in August 1996 as president and vice chairman. He was named ConAgra's chief executive officer on September 25, 1997, and chairman on September 24, 1998.

Prior to joining ConAgra, Mr. Rohde represented ConAgra as principle attorney commencing in 1974. From 1984 to August 1996, he was ConAgra's general counsel. For those 12 years, Mr. Rohde served with ConAgra's Management Executive Committee, the company's senior management group. He represented ConAgra in more than 200 acquisitions from 1976-1996.

Mr. Rohde received his bachelor of science degree in business administration from Creighton University in 1971. He earned his juris doctorate degree, cum laude, from Creighton School of Law in 1973. He also earned a certified public accountant certificate.

Mr. Rohde is a member of the board of directors of Valmont Industries, Inc., Grocery Manufacturers of America, the Preventive Medicine Research Institute and vice chairman of the board of directors of Creighton University and chairman of the board of directors of the Strategic Air Command Museum. He is a member of the Harvard's Private and Public, Scientific, Academic, and Consumer Food Policy Committee (PAPSAC), and the STRATCOM Consultation Committee.

     PUBLIC ACCOUNTING

Cheryl A. Wenzinger
Cheryl has been an audit partner since 1984 with Deloitte & Touche LLP, one of the Big 5 international public accounting firms. She grew up in rural Colorado and graduated from the University of Northern Colorado in 1972. She has worked in Denver for Deloitte & Touche since graduation, serving many private and public companies with a focus on real estate, health care and insurance. She is contributing author to The Real Estate Accounting and Reporting Manual, a comprehensive overview of the scope and extent of current real estate accounting and tax issues published by Warren, Gorham & Lamont.

Deloitte & Touche has been recognized nationally for their commitment to women and work/life issues. The firm launched its Women's Initiative in the early '90s aimed at attracting, retaining and promoting women. Cheryl has been active in supporting the firm's Initiative and has lead her office's advisory council for the advancement and retention of women. She has also served on national committees responsible for promotion and compensation of accounting and auditing partners within Deloitte & Touche.

Cheryl was the 1999-2000 president of the 8,300 member Colorado Society of CPAs and is currently chairing the Colorado Society's "Blueprint Committee" to align the governance and structure of the Society to help members capitalize on the tremendous opportunities that the changing business landscape is creating for CPAs. She is also a past board member and treasurer for Mile High Child Care Association, Big Sisters of Colorado, and the UNC Alumni Association. She is also a past member of the UNC Accounting Advisory Board. She currently is a member of Council of AICPA, board member and past treasurer for Food Bank of the Rockies, board member of the Colorado Chapter of Healthcare Financial Management Association and a member of the Women's Chamber of Commerce, the Wise Women's Council and Denver Rotary.

Cheryl was a finalist in the 1998 Athena Awards sponsored by the Colorado Women's Chamber, in recognition of her contributions to the professional community and exemplary leadership skills. She has also received the YMCA Women of Achievement Award, was named the outstanding female accounting graduate in 1972 by the American Society of Women Accountants, and was the Colorado Society of CPAs' Gold Key Winner for outstanding accounting graduate at UNC in 1972. UNC has recently selected Cheryl as their "Business Alumni of the Year" for 2000.

     EDUCATION

Dr. Edward V. McIntyre
Dr. Edward V. McIntyre has been a member of the Accounting faculty at Florida State University since earning his Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina in 1970. Currently, he holds the position of Ernst & Young Professor of Accounting.

He was a visiting professor in Northeastern University's MPA program in 1972, 1976 and 1982. Prior to joining Florida State University he worked as a CPA for the international accounting firm of Haskins & Sells. Dr. McIntyre has taught a wide variety of accounting courses on both the graduate and undergraduate levels, and has won several teaching awards, including Beta Alpha Psi Professor of the Year.

Dr. McIntyre has published papers in leading journals in the fields of accounting, management science, and industrial engineering, including The Accounting Review, Management Science, and IIE Transactions.
