In support of individual research and writing projects for student members, Beta Alpha Psi sponsors two manuscript contests: one for undergraduate students and the other for graduate students. Each chapter is permitted to submit a maximum of four papers for the competitions.
Student papers were initially screened for compliance with the rules of the specific contest. Acceptable papers were evaluated by designated members of the National Council.
In addition to being recognized as a Literary or Research Scholar, the author of the first place manuscript in each competition receives (1) a plaque, (2) a $750 cash prize, and (3) an all-expenses-paid trip to the 2000 annual meeting in Washington, DC. Second and third place papers are awarded $500 and $250, respectively. The funding for these awards is provided by the Beta Alpha Psi Associates. First place manuscripts will be published in the Journal of Accounting Education.
UNDERGRADUATE AWARDS
For the year 1999-2000, the undergraduate topic was "The Use of Financial and Nonfinancial Data in Performance Measurement." Members from chapters entered manuscripts in the undergraduate competition. The manuscripts were evaluated by a faculty screening committee consisting of National Council members Alex Ampadu, Jan Morris, Clyde Herring, Susie Shannon, Gadis Dillon and Joyce Frakes.
