On October 29 and 30, 1999, the University of Utah in Salt Lake City welcomed 56 students representing Beta Alpha Psi chapters from across the nation to the annual Thomas J. Burns Undergraduate Student Seminar.

Hosted by the Epsilon Xi Chapter, the seminar was held on campus in the Rice Eccles Olympic Stadium, future home of the opening and closing ceremonies for the 2002 Winter Olympics.

Students participating in this event wrote short position papers in the general area of "The SEC's Initiatives and Their Impact on the Accounting Profession." Additional areas of discussion included "Auditor Independence" and "International Accounting Standards." The papers were evaluated by faculty members in the School of Accounting at the University of Utah David Eccles School of Business and awards were presented to the authors of the best papers.

Student leaders from the University of Utah School of Accounting served as discussion moderators during the day-long concurrent seminars. At the end of the day, the two outstanding student discussion participants received awards. The discussions proved to be valuable and informative to those attending the seminar.

Participants were pleased to have Bernie Milano, National President of Beta Alpha Psi, participate in the discussions. Lola Rhodes, the National Director of National and International Programs and Bernadette Borgelt, National Student Alumni Representative, also participated.
