Dear Beta Alpha Psi Faculty Advisors, Co-Faculty Advisors, Chapter
Presidents and Reporters :
We would like to keep you up-to-date on new developments and keep
you advised of what's happening in the Executive Office.
Reporting Intranet
Unfortunately, we are still experiencing some bugs with the new
system. This is not unusual however some of these problems are affecting
many chapters. We are working with our consultant to resolve these
issues as quickly as possible. We appreciate your patience!
Your chapter's Beginning of the Year report will
be due on October 15 . Please make sure that you
have updated the department chair and dean's information in addition
to everything else. Also, please see the note below on chapter by-laws.
You will not be required to submit your chapter Excel notebook until
December 15, but you should download it, familiarize yourself with
it, and begin entering information – don't wait until the last minute.
It is now accessible from the BAP website homepage at www.bap.org.
Chapter by-laws – Removal of chapter president
It would be prudent for each chapter to ascertain that there are
adequate provisions in their by-laws to remove their president from
office if this situation becomes necessary. If you use the sample
bylaws on the BAP website, please go through the process to make
the following recommended change:
Remove the words, “and call” from Article XIV, Section 1 of the
Bylaws as follows:
Replace:
ARTICLE XIV - DUTIES OF CHAPTER OFFICERS
Section 1. The president calls and presides at
meetings of the chapter and of the executive committee; appoints
such committees as the constitution or bylaws, or vote of the chapter
shall provide; determines that all reporting responsibilities and
other duties of the vice president, secretary, and treasurer are
performed in accordance with the Constitution and Bylaws; and seeks
to promote the welfare of the chapter and Beta Alpha Psi.
With:
Section 1. The president presides at meetings of the chapter and
of the executive committee; appoints such committees as the constitution
or bylaws, or vote of the chapter shall provide; determines that
all reporting responsibilities and other duties of the vice president,
secretary, and treasurer are performed in accordance with the Constitution
and Bylaws; and seeks to promote the welfare of the chapter and Beta
Alpha Psi.
This change will enable someone other than the president to call
a meeting. Please also review that your chapter by-laws conform
to university requirements.
Hurricane Katrina
I have updated the information on the homepage of the BAP website
based on the e-mails you sent me last week. Here are a few activities
that our BAP chapters are sponsoring to help those displaced:
University of South Florida/Delta Gamma -
Our chapter does concessions at BUCs games for scholarships. The
first game proceeds will go to Katrina instead. Could
be anywhere from $300 to $900.
University of Kansas/ Lambda Alpha – The chapter
setup a booth where students could donate money to the American Red
Cross for the hurricane Katrina effort.
The Iota Kappa Chapter at the University of the Pacific is
spearheading a fundraiser for donations to the Red Cross to aid Hurricane
Katrina victims.
