VITA Competition


Beta Alpha Psi and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) have partnered to sponsor the following national awards in the categories below for chapters participating in the VITA program:

Category 1:  Chapters sponsoring & coordinating a site(s) where all volunteers are members and/or candidates are eligible to participate for an award.  The top two chapters for each area noted below will be recognized during the annual meeting each year.

  1. Number of Federal Income Tax Returns prepared, and
  2. Number of volunteers contributing at least 5 hours service

Category 2:  Chapters that have members who volunteer at a VITA site coordinated by another campus or community based organization are eligible to participate for the following award.  One chapter will be recognized during the annual meeting each year.

  1. Number of chapter member volunteers contributing at least 5 hours service

Area Awards:  An Area Award will be presented to the Area with the largest number of chapters engaged in VITA.  In order to minimize the disparity between Areas with significantly more chapters than others, two awards will be granted as follows:

  1. Areas 1, 2, & 3 will compete against each other, and
  2. Areas 4, 5, & 6 will compete against each other.

The following will apply in the event there is a tie for an award:

  1. Tie Breaker for “Number of Federal Income Tax Returns” prepared will be the Number of returns per Beta Alpha Psi member/pledge,
  2. Tie Breaker for “Number of volunteers contributing at least 5 hours service” will be the Number of volunteer hours per volunteer, and
  3. Tie Breaker for Area awards will be the Percentage of chapters in Area engaged in VITA.

How do you compete for award recognition? 

Category 1 & 2 awards:
Complete the Beta Alpha Psi VITA program “National Recognition Reporting Summary” by the deadline and follow the instructions provided on page 2 of the form.

Area Awards:
Information reported to the National level will be used to determine awards.

The IRS has requested that each chapter who participated in VITA this year, to please complete the spreadsheet linked above.

Please send in the spreadsheet along with the Reporting Summary by the May 1st, 2012 deadline to Rawlin Tate at: rawlin.tate@irs.gov.

This will show the significant contribution that the chapters of Beta Alpha Psi provide to VITA and their communities.
