2009 Alumni Representative Nomination Instructions
(due May 1, 2009)
Description
The Alumni Representative members of the International Board of Directors serve as representatives for the student membership of Beta Alpha Psi. The Alumni Representatives’ primary responsibility is to keep the Board informed of students' perspectives on issues affecting the Organization. Other responsibilities include leading alumni involvement initiatives and serving on committees as appointed by the President. Two Alumni Representatives, elected by the Board, serve as voting members for a two-year term. The Alumni Representatives’ terms expire on a staggered basis. As a result, the Board elects one Alumni Representative each year.
Each chapter of Beta Alpha Psi may nominate either one graduating (undergraduate or graduate) student or one student who has graduated within the previous year for election to the Board. For consideration by the Board, the student must meet the eligibility requirements and submit a completed Application as described below in section “Eligibility” and “Application Packet.”
Duties
The nominee must be able to make a two-year commitment to perform the following duties:
- Attend three Beta Alpha Psi Board meetings each year (one meeting will be via teleconference)
- Attend a minimum of four Regional meetings each year as requested by the President (will be asked to make several individual presentations on various topics at the Regional conferences)
- Serve on Alumni Initiative Committees as requested by the President
- Serve on Board Committees as requested by the President
The Board normally meets in early January, June (teleconference), and August. Meetings usually last two to three days (teleconference meetings will last around 2 hours) and are held on weekdays and weekends. Attendance at these functions usually involves travel. A new Alumni Representative officially assumes his or her duties following the Annual Meeting in August and will be expected to attend both the August Board and Annual meeting.
Eligibility
Any graduating member of Beta Alpha Psi is eligible to serve as an Alumni Representative. The member may be completing an undergraduate or graduate degree. To be eligible, the nominee must be graduating in the current academic year or in their first year of employment. The nominee may be entering a career in the field of Accounting, Finance, or Information Systems. Graduating students who will be enrolling in a graduate program are not eligible to serve as an Alumni Representative.
When selecting a nominee for the Board, the nominating chapter should consider the nominee's:
- Ability of the nominee to meet all of the eligibility requirements
- Leadership activities in Beta Alpha Psi and other campus activities
- Participation in Beta Alpha Psi activities at the local, regional and national levels (if nominee is already an alumni then participation in Beta Alpha Psi as an alumni)
- Willingness to perform the duties of an Alumni Representative as described herein.
The Application should include evidence of these considerations.
As a final condition for serving as an Alumni Representative, the graduate's future employer must provide a commitment in writing to allow the nominee time and preferably financial support to fulfill duties outlined in section “Duties” above.
Application Packet
The application packet must include the following:
- A completed Nomination Form (see link below). For follow up questions, please ensure that contact address, email address and phone number are complete and current.
- A letter from the nominee should include but not be limited to the following: stating his/her contribution to Beta Alpha Psi as both a student member and as an alumni (if applicable), motivation to serve as the Alumni Representative, vision for Beta Alpha Psi as an organization and regarding alumni, and personal goals for this position.
- A letter from the nominating chapter and/ or faculty advisor, including a description about why the nominee should be considered for the election.
- A letter from the nominee's future employer stating their support (I.e. financial and time).
- ***Any additional support provided to represent the nominee’s application is up to the discretion of the nominee.
