Hi all
It's April 6th and do you know where your chapter's nominations are for PRWI? With 24 days remaining before nominations are due, I wanted to remind you that you must have everything completed when you send in the nominations. Nomination packages that are fully complete will be given the most weight. Do not miss out on this opportunity by delaying, especially the NFP interview. Remember these folks are short staffed and it may take you some time to obtain an interview.

Cheers
Tina

Topic "Helpful information for chapter presentations" a message from Kristinecaratan

I recently received a request for some key points on the Project. Thought it would be good if I shared the reply.

Here are some points – in no particular order but broken down by administrative and functional.

Administrative
o	Students who participate must arrive in Denver so that they are able to be at the opening meeting which starts promptly at 6p on Wednesday August 10th. This is essential. As you will recall, we had the Project students register for the enter conference, obtain both their Project polo shirts, and their CSD t-shirts. We also went through the administration of the Project and then introduced the three NFPs (see below)
o	Dr. Morris and I both believe we will have many more than the 60 students apply for the Project this year. Therefore, your chapter should be advised that applications that are fully complete by the May 1, 2011 deadline will be given greater weight. In prior years, due to class schedules, etc., we were a little lax on having the NFP interview in the nomination/application package. That will not be the case this year.
o	Students participating in the Project must participate in the national community service day – which will be on Thursday August 11 (the middle part of the day).
o	As in prior years we will not be advising the students what case they will be assigned or their team members until the opening meeting.
Functional
o	The cases are now posted - http://www.bap.org/compPRWI.aspx?ver=2
o	Included at this link are links for the various forms the students will need to nominate
o	This year’s Project will assist 10 NFPs right off the bat and will ultimately help NFPs throughout Colorado and feasibly throughout the US.
o	One thing when you speak to the students, you should relate your personal experiences (preferably without Powerpoint assistance).
	How you interacted with your fellow teammates (are you still Facebook buddies with them?)
	What you learned
	What it meant to you?
	Do you think you helped the NFP?

As the Moss Adams coordinator, I would like to add our Firm's welcome to PRWI - 2011! Moss Adams has been honored to be the sponsor of PRWI since its inception in 2008. The level of committment and most especially the thought that has gone into the presentations by the students in prior years has been inspiring. The NFPs that have participated have been significantly helped as a result of the Project.

As Jan mentioned in her welcome, we anticipate well over the maximum 60 students to apply to the Project. Therefore, I will encourage you to apply early and have a completed application by the due date of May 1.

There is no doubt in my mind that Project participants gain skills that they cannot obtain through the normal academic experience.

See you in August in Denver.

Tina Caratan, CPA
Moss Adams LLP

Topic "Starting a local chapter Alumni Board" a message from andy.kaestle

Beta Alpha Psi has positively impacted the lives and careers of many students and the involvement of its alumni continues to be an essential part of the organization.

My name is Andy Kaestle, Zeta Kappa Chapter - I recently graduated from the University of San Diego and began my career in public accounting just four short months ago. My experience in these few months has been rewarding and enjoyable. However, after graduating I felt a particular void which I was eager to fulfill; continuing my direct involvement with our Beta Alpha Psi chapter. Fortunately for me, I knew of a few others who also had the itch to become more involved with the students of our alma mater, so ideas began to develop.

This particular idea, as well as many additional suggestions for promoting our success, came from the National Alumni Representatives, Annie Boudreau and Brad Shultz. The idea was to start a Beta Alpha Psi alumni board for our former school’s chapter. The purpose of the board would be to facilitate alumni-to-alumni as well as alumni-to-student interaction in both social and professional environments.

The students have been especially responsive to this idea, shown by their strong attendance at our first event last month. The more difficult task however was gathering up-to-date contact information of those alumni interested in attending our events in the San Diego area.

There’s certainly more than one way to have success with this seemingly daunting task, but this was our approach. Through the schools we each attended as well as the professional networks we had each built while working at our respective professional firms, we figured that at least one of us had a close contact at each of the main firms in San Diego. Then we divided the firms up amongst ourselves based on who had the strongest contact at each. Each of us then reached out to that contact, providing information about our new Alumni Board, the Board’s purpose, and an invitation to our first event. The event was a reception followed by everyone attending the USD vs. Stanford basketball game on a Friday evening. We also had students attend and in total had around 30 people at the event, exceeding our expectations for our first event. I would also like to give credit to the current chapter advisors, Mark Judd and Miles Romney. Both were enthusiastic about the idea and played an integral role in promoting student attendance at the event.

We are continuously updating our alumni lists as each of us comes across individuals interested in getting involved. It is our hope that the lists eventually grow into a database that will include the majority of San Diego’s Zeta Kappa chapter alumni.

I hope our small taste of success provides you with encouragement. I would strongly urge you to consider taking the initiative to form an Alumni Board and begin to bring the students and alumni of your local chapter back together. Please feel free to post questions or make additional suggestions on the idea. In addition to those people I’ve mentioned, there are many people who have been incredibly supportive of this initiative and for that we greatly appreciate all that you have done.
Thanks for reading!
-Andy

As each semester passes, we are always looking for new innovative topics to discuss at our weekly meetings held. We range from different industries in Accounting, Resume/Interview workshops, CPA information and Mid-market vs Big 4. I want to ensure that the topics don't become repetitive from semester to semester. I would love to share and swap ideas, topics, etc with anyone. As President, it is important to me to keep the members interested and involved, so I would love to hear what other chapters have discussed that striked their interest.

Melissa Lilly
Beta Alpha Psi
Spring 2010 President
University of Central Florida
