To: Beta Alpha Psi Chapters:
We hope that you were able to attend the 2009 Beta Alpha Psi Annual Meeting held in Brooklyn in August. BAP chapters should now start planning for the 2010 Annual Meeting.
As you probably know, the 2010 BAP Annual Meeting will be held in San Jose, California on August 5-7. The theme will be Ethics, Integrity and Independence of Mind. Involvement by chapters and their members is an essential ‘value added’ ingredient in each year’s annual meeting. Presenters and chapters benefit both by presenting and learning from presentations by others. This is a valuable exchange of ideas and energy.
As a way to best match the program topics and needs with your interests and skills, we are asking chapters interested in presenting at the 2010 annual meeting to complete the form that follows and return it as soon as possible, but no later than December 18, 2009. Please note that to enable the maximum number presentations, chapters will be grouped together in sessions. Each presentation will be approximately ten minutes.
We will continue successful and popular sessions from prior years and we would like to add new sessions on topics you suggest. Please feel free to volunteer for one of these suggested sessions or propose a new one:
- Successful Fundraising Ideas: Generating funds to provide for worthwhile chapter activities can be challenging. Chapters can share their experiences about what has worked.
- Innovative Recruiting: This session will allow for sharing of ideas on how to attract students to become candidates and, subsequently, how to sustain their interest level as active members. Also, include innovative ways to recruit Finance and Information Systems students.
- Key Drivers for Successful Chapters: This session will share ideas of how to identify and then implement these factors. Special challenges exist for large and small chapters.
- Running a Successful VITA Program: This session will focus on how to start or maintain a Volunteer income Tax Assistance Program.
- Chapter Leadership Succession Planning: Chapters change officers every year, and individuals are generally involved in BAP for only one or two years. This session will focus on the “secrets to success” that chapters develop to ensure the ongoing success of their chapter.
- Operational Workshops for Chapter (a) Presidents, (b) Treasurers, and(c) Reporters: Experienced representatives of each of these offices that will be available for anyone with specific help or assistance that is needed. (Please note both the number 6 and letter (a, b, c) in the space provided on the interest form to indicate which workshop your chapter would like to participate in). Reminder: the presenter must be a current or past holder of the office.
- Holding on to Your Alumni: Let’s share ideas regarding your chapter’s efforts to tap this valuable resource.
- Meaningful Service Projects: In this session, chapters will discuss effective, meaningful service projects that can be adapted.
- Innovative Career Networking: Share your chapter’s creative ideas for career networking events, especially in a difficult job market.
- Preparing Chapter Members for the Workforce: Share your chapter’s successful programs to help prepare members for entering the working world.
- Proposed Session: Please send a one paragraph session summary or description similar to those provided for items 1-10.
You will be notified by mid-January 2010 regarding your involvement in any sessions at which you will be presenting. Please note that you will be required to submit a one-paragraph abstract of your plans for any assigned session by February 16, 2010.
Also, this interest form does not relate to Best Practices presentations and participating in Project Run With It; information on competing in these programs is available on the BAP website at www.bap.org or you can contact your chapter advocate.
Thanks in advance for helping us get an early start on the meeting planning!
