On Sunday June 29, 1997 East Carolina University's petitioning chapter of Beta Alpha Psi volunteered for the Michael Jordan Celebrity Golf Classic. The tournament is held each year in Greenville, NC to benefit the Ronald McDonald Houses of Eastern North Carolina. Thirty-eight Beta Alpha Psi members and pledges walked each hole with the celebrity's team carrying a sign that displayed the celebrity's name. In addition to Michael Jordan, thirty-six other celebrities participated in the tournament including Lou Holtz, former head football coach at Notre Dame University, Reggie Jackson, former New York Yankee and member of the Baseball Hall of Fame, and members of Hootie and the Blowfish Band.
