Students that attended the Beta Alpha Psi Games Night on Thursday, September 24, 1998, found that looking for a job can be fun. They spent the evening with about 45 professional representatives from public accounting firms and industry playing casino games and winning raffle prizes
The event was a success for all that attended. Students were able to meet recruiters and learn about various career opportunities that were available to them. Besides going home with business contacts, many won door prizes such as T-shirts, mugs, and umbrellas. (All prizes were donated by the firms who were invited to attend.) Employers gained names of students that they wished to interview. They also were eligible for the Miami University prize drawing. Even some members of the accounting faculty and the department chair, John Cumming, attended to show their support for our chapter.
The evening proved to be fun for all. The gaming tables remained full all evening, while students, faculty, and professionals tested their skills.
We are happy that this event has become the new fall tradition for Beta Alpha Psi. Last year, this event raised several hundred dollars, which were donated to the Oxford Crisis Center and the Open Door Pantry. We also set up two scholarships for a junior accounting major and a Master of Accountancy student. Proceeds from this year's event will be donated to a charity still to be determined.
We, the officers of the Omega Chapter of Beta Alpha Psi, would like to thank all those that attended the event. We appreciate the support of the students, faculty, and professionals who gave their time and efforts to make this event a success.
