Beta Alpha Psi not only invites accounting professionals to speak at the weekly meetings, but also requests their presence at social events. On Wednesday, October 9, 1996, members of Beta Alpha Psi and representatives of participating employers boarded the Spirit of Norfolk Cruise Ship. Professionals came from KPMG Peat Marwick; McPhillips, Lieland & Deans; Coopers and Lybrand; and Price Waterhouse. Many of the professionals are Old Dominion University alumni who continue to support our Beta Alpha Psi chapter.
The night began with a delicious dinner buffet followed by musical entertainment provided by the ship’s crew. Interactions between the members and the representatives in this type of social gathering benefits the members of Beta Alpha Psi, because it gives them the opportunity to meet people who may be their future employers. It gives the members a chance to present themselves, ask questions about the companies and the industry, and get to know the professionals more. The very relaxed setting of the Spirit of Norfolk is a great way to converse, unlike a more formal environment. This is one of the social meetings that Beta Alpha Psi members enjoy attending every year.
