Fall Quarter 1996, the Delta Omega Chapter of Beta Alpha Psi at Utah State University participated in a service project with the Water Research Laboratory on campus. The project involved fund accounting and reconciling the accounting system of the Water Research Lab to the University’s accounting system. The pledges were required to participate and members were also encouraged to become involved. In the accounting program at Utah State, fund accounting is not taught until the senior year in the program and it was a great opportunity for students to have a hands on experience of actual fund accounting so when they encounter it in their classes, they have an idea of what fund accounting is all about. This project lasted four weeks and over 80 hours were contributed. Students were able to have an actual hands on experience in fund accounting which will benefit them when this concept is introduced in the accounting program.
