"Which way is that letter facing?" the volunteer asked a four-year girl. "I made a picture for my mom today," said the little girl. Just a typical response for the day! The volunteer asked the question again but this time the little girl pointed to her left. "Good!" exclaimed the volunteer.
The volunteers at the preschool that day were members of Prevent Blindness Utah, along with members and pledges of Theta Tau Chapter at Weber State University in Ogden, Utah. Twelve members and pledges each put in at least two hours of service helping the organization administer eye screenings to some of the local area preschools during the month of November.
The mission of Prevent Blindness Utah is to identify young children that may need special eye care before they begin kindergarten. The work was fun--you never know what kids will say or do next! It also gave those of us who helped a feeling that maybe we helped someone get a better start on their education.
