Kerplunk! The small round ball lands inches from the hole. One more stroke is all it takes to sink it. The team cheers! These were the sounds heard on September 20, 1996, at the Spanish Oaks Golf Course in Spanish Fork, Utah, where Brigham Young University sponsored its annual Golf for Charity event.
For one of its major service activities for all semester, Brigham Young University raised money through its Golf for Charity event and used the money to help underprivileged children. Approximately $500.00 was raised from the event, which was used to give Christmas to children from a Boys and Girls Home in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Mike Broberg, a Gamma Alpha Chapter vice-president, organized Golf for Charity. This event consisted of a nine-hole, four-person scramble. Each team consisted of ΒΑΨ members and either professionals or faculty. Teams teed off every half hour throughout the day. The event was organized as to allow ample opportunity for students to mingle with both faculty and professionals. The money for charity was raised from golfing fees charged to each participant. The day was enjoyed by all who participated, and already plans are underway for such an event in 1997.
