Every year Employer’s Night is held on our campus in the Business College and everyone knows exactly what to expect. This event started to become repetitious and stagnant. This year, we wanted to try out something entirely new. We reserved the entire second floor at the famous restaurant, Planet Hollywood. The planning for this event was extensive and began early in the summer. Approximately forty employers signed up to have booths for prospective employees. On September 25, 1996, students and employers, all dressed in formal professional attire, began arriving at Caesar’s Palace which is the hotel in Las Vegas that houses Planet Hollywood. The Student Accounting Association was involved along with the AICPA. There was a formal presentation given by Tom Roch, a Partner with Arthur Andersen. Soon after this intriguing presentation about Accounting in the year 2000, students and employers mingled and discussed all aspects of their work as accountants as well as employment prospects. The food was excellent and served by waiters dressed in formal wear. Many appetizers were also served and beverages were free to all. The background music and the sights of Planet Hollywood itself also added to the ambiance. The atmosphere was exciting as everyone was busy meeting many people and learning about what the field of Accounting is like in Las Vegas. In fact, things went so well the function itself lasted from 6:00 p.m. until almost 10:30 p.m. when originally it was planned to last only three hours.

This function was rather expensive and extensively planned. The end result, however, spoke for itself. The attendance was in all, well over ninety people. Employers and students are already asking what the date will be for next year’s event. Many students made great connections with employers, and also learned some valuable information about their chosen fields. Employers, on the other hand, got the chance to experience the Accounting Students from the Theta Omicron Chapter of Beta Alpha Psi at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
