As the morning sun burned away the haze, the combatants took the court. Each team of weekend warriors prepared themselves for the upcoming war. Every point was crucial as the players battled it out for who would be the victor this hot, humid morning. The prize was simple, bragging rights. The right to call yourself champion of the third annual Epsilon Delta Chapter Sand Volleyball Tournament.
The tournament was held on Saturday, June 27, 1998 and was a remarkable success. The tournament was comprised of students, professionals, and returning alumni. This was the first major event of the recruiting season which allowed the students and professionals to start to get to know each other, so each would be more prepared when it came time for interviews. It also allowed the alumni to talk to old friends that they had not seen in quite some time.
The volleyball tournament also serves as a fundraiser for our chapter. The money made from this event is used to help fund the chapter for the year and provides valuable scholarships to our student members. This is the first and largest fundraiser for the chapter each year.
The best thing about the volleyball tournament is that everyone had an enjoyable time. There were no major injuries (just some sprained ankles), and that future and practicing accountants were able to get to know one another. One final note, the student teams finished dead last in both the recreational and competitive divisions, but that is just so we can be practicing accountants at next summer's tournament.
