The Theta Tau Chapter of Beta Alpha Psi gave something to a large group of inner-city youth and their parents Monday, November 23, 1998 that they do not receive very often; a Thanksgiving dinner.
Each year, Beta Alpha Psi performs acts of service for the community. This year the fraternity decided to provide a Thanksgiving dinner to the Youth Impact Organization at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in downtown Ogden.
ΒΑΨ served Thanksgiving dinner to more than 150 of these inner-city youth and their parents. Forty-nine volunteers, including members of BAP, accounting students, and accounting professors provided more than 100 hours of service. These hours were spent cooking and serving the food to the group and preparing and receiving donations. Local businesses and individuals contributed more than $150 toward the project. In addition, the community donated all the potatoes, corn, stuffing, oranges, gravy, rolls, and butter.
Spearheaded by Rob Hall, Youth Impact is a youth organization that services the inner-city minority group. Twice a week, these youth have a place to play games, have dinner, and make friends.
Hall, director of Youth Impact, was so impressed with the dinner that he wants to make it an annual event. Not only did the dinner provide a great meal for his youth program, it also gave him the opportunity to meet the parents of many of the children. While the youth were able to enjoy a Thanksgiving dinner, the service group had the opportunity to participate in giving to those who are less fortunate.
