Iota Gamma, University of Idaho
This year the Iota Gamma membership decided to expand our communications with local and long distance alumni. In determining how to achieve this goal, the concept of having an alumni advisor emerged. After brief deliberation, the group decided on a local CPA alum, Jackson Davis. This particular alum has always been available when the chapter has called upon him for presentations and advice. In addition, his firm Presnell Gage Accounting and Consulting, is a strong Vandal supporter.
It was our thought, that an alum currently working in the accounting profession could provide an excellent source of advice in achieving our main objective: professional development. That person could attend our functions, and it would give us additional opportunity in learning about our chosen profession. We also envisioned that Jackson could impart unto us real time information about changes in the accounting profession.
This is the first semester that Jackson is our alumni advisor. Jackson attended our fall pledge orientation and encouraged students to become members and get involved. In Jackson's words to our potential members, "If you are serious about accounting, you need to join". That comment had a strong impact on the students attending that night, and we have had an excellent response from students interested in pledging Beta Alpha Psi.
