The morning sun brought promise of one of the warmest December days imaginable. School was out for the holidays and there was no school work to be done on a Saturday. This did not stop members of Cal State San Bernardino's Beta Alpha Psi from gathering that early Saturday morning to help out the community. Beta Alpha Psi recently joined the Adopt-A-Street program, a San Bernardino project designed to keep the city clean. We adopted the stretch of University Parkway on the eastbound side from the 215 freeway up to the University. Some of you eagle eyes may have already noticed the signs along the street that recognize Beta Alpha Psi for its participation in this program. Saturday, December 19, was the first time members got the opportunity to actually get out and make a difference directly in our University community. Members met at 8am and had breakfast together at IHOP before starting work. The work consisted of picking up litter from the street and sidewalks and making sure the gutters were clear, but we had to stop picking up pine cones after the first 500 Lbs. After realizing how many garbage bags we had filled upon reaching the campus, it was obvious that we had made a difference. Beta Alpha Psi members had a great time at this event; Some members brought their spouses and even children to help out. Even as clouds moved in and a persistent sprinkle threatened to turn into a downpour, our spirits were not dampened. This event was a great chance for people to volunteer their spare time for a good cause, spend time with friends, make new friends, and help keep the community looking good. We look forward to making our Adopt-A-Street community service program a monthly event.

The street we "Adopted".

This is one of six signs on our "Adopted" street. We think we need a little larger letter!

Here is our street! Our campus is 1 1/2 miles from here, against the foothills. We keep the street clean from this point to the Campus.
