During the Fall of 1998, the Delta Gamma chapter participated in the Florida Institute of CPAs (FICPA) Accounting Conference and also hosted its own accounting conference.
Nearly 200 professionals, faculty, and students attended the FICPA Conference. The two day event featured many distinguished speakers presenting a wide variety of topics, such as computer fraud, international accounting, electric money, Year 2000 issues, activity based costing, and litigation's impact on financial statements, to name a few.
The meeting concluded with student presentations from two Delta Gamma chapter members, Melissa Sears and Amol Nirgudkar. Melissa delivered a very informative presentation on the subject of derivatives, and Amol spoke articulately on the topic of business combinations, both of who received many compliments from the conference attendees.
The annual Fall Accounting Conference hosted by Beta Alpha Psi was also a great success. The purpose behind the event was simple: to further assist students and professionals in their quest to build or strengthen the foundation of their chosen career. All business majors were invited to the conference, as well as professionals who needed to fulfill their CPE requirements. Students and professionals alike benefited in ways simply immeasurable in terms of human calculation.
Various respected and distinguished members of the local Tampa business community presented the following topics: 1) developing leadership skills to improve yourself and others; 2) increasing the effectiveness of your communication and presentation skills; 3) business etiquette and the professional image; and 4) adapting to changes in the global marketplace.
Students and professionals left with a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction that they were better in some manner. The conference brought a sense of awareness to its participants. In addition, the conference added yet another brick to the foundation of many aspiring students' careers. It introduced several winning solutions that inevitably would assist them in their voyage through the complex business environment of today's world.
