August 7-9, 2014
Atlanta, GA

Leading at the Crossroads is the theme for the 2014 Beta Alpha Psi Annual Meeting. This seemed like a fitting theme for this year's meeting as our meeting will be taking place in Atlanta, GA which was considered a great rail hub.

Beta Alpha Psi President, Jan Taylor Morris, along with the 2014 Annual Meeting Chair, Scott Hobson, 2014 Program Chair, Mark Judd, and other event coordinators are working hard to plan a fun-filled and interesting meeting that you will not want to miss.

In addition to the usual opportunities to network, learn and compete, a very meaningful community service day has been planned. Deemed BAP International Day of Literacy (sponsored by KPMG and the KPMG Foundation), attendees will distribute books at local Atlanta elementary schools and teach about the importance of literacy. This is the second year Beta Alpha Psi has done a community service day like this!

Also, you will be glad to know we have worked out a deal for annual meeting participants to go to a Braves game on Friday night at a substantially reduced price! If you are interested in going make sure to check the CVENT registration page to purchase tickets in advance, as no tickets will be sold during the Annual Meeting.

For more details, find the Annual Meeting Program here

Below are other highlights to look forward to at the Annual Meeting:

  • Keynote Speakers- Richard J. Caturano, CPA, CGMA and Flip Flippen
  • Project Run With It – 72 students can compete this year.
  • Chapter Operations Sessions – Over 80 Chapters will be presenting. All sessions are full.
  • Professional Sessions with many new and exciting topics.

We hope that you will attend this year's annual meeting- we are sure it will be one of the best experiences you've had with BAP thus far!

Community Service Day

Sponsored by KPMG LLP and the KPMG Foundation

ATTENTION: This volunteer opportunity requires you to arrive in Atlanta before 9:00 a.m. ET on August 7.

IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ

Effective January 2012, the Atlanta Board of Education adopted a new administrative regulation that requires each school to conduct screening of volunteers, and requires all volunteers to have on file with the school a completed Volunteer Release Form, which must be submitted with a copy of a government-issued photo ID. If you are a student or faculty member, we recommend a copy of your school ID (as long as it has a photo). If your school ID does not have a photo or you do not have a school ID, you will need a copy of another type of government-issued photo ID (driver’s license, Passport, etc.).To comply with this regulation, it is mandatory that you bring a copy of your government-issued photo ID to the Community Service Day (CSD) Kick-Off. Volunteer Release Forms will be available at the Kick-Off.  When volunteers load the buses, they will give the signed Volunteer Release Form and the copy of their government-issued photo ID to the bus lead.  Upon arrival at the school, these forms will be given to the school principal.  In order to avoid delays, please bring a copy of your government-issued photo ID to Atlanta and remember to bring it to the Kick-Off event on Thursday, August 7. Your assistance with this matter is greatly appreciated. If you have questions, please contact Della Moore at dkmoore@kpmg.com or 303-382-7310.

As part of the 2014 Beta Alpha Psi (BAP) international annual meeting in Atlanta, Georgia, KPMG LLP and the KPMG Foundation are proud to sponsor the BAP International Day of Literacy for our Community Service Day project. The event is in collaboration with the United Way of Greater Atlanta and the non-profit organization First Book. On Thursday, August 7, we will be visiting local schools to distribute books and teach the children the importance of literacy in their lives. All BAP annual meeting attendees, except those students and faculty participating in Project Run With It, are expected to participate.

If you would like to participate in Community Service Day but are unable to travel to a school, please email Della Moore. There will be a service activity at the hotel for you to do instead.

Photographer: We need photographers with their own camera (SDHC card to be provided) to take pictures of the children with a mascot at each location. If you enjoy taking pictures and would like to volunteer for this activity, please send an email to Della Moore.

Attire: Please dress casual and wear comfortable shoes (no flip flops or open-toed shoes). You will be given a t-shirt during registration to wear. Shorts are acceptable, but should not be too short.

Lunch and water will be provided, but if you require snacks throughout the day, please plan to bring your own.

School Supply Drive

Also, as part of Community Service Day, we are collecting school supplies, which will be distributed to local elementary school children. Please choose one or more items below to bring to Atlanta. These items will be collected at the registration area at the Hilton Atlanta.

Project Run With It

Sponsored by Moss-Adams

Deadline: May 1st, 11:59 PM EST

Overview

Project Run With It (PRWI) furthers the community service component of Beta Alpha Psi and provides members/candidates with an opportunity to engage in a real-world consulting project.

PRWI 2014 will involve 72 BAP student representatives working together during the annual meeting to develop solutions to real life business problems of actual not-for-profit (NFP) organizations located in the area where the annual meeting is being held. Working in eighteen teams of four, the students will have the equivalent of one and one-half working days to develop a formal presentation showcasing their solution to the business issues presented by the NFPs in their request for proposal for consulting services. Prior to the annual meeting, the NFP organizations will provide background information and will be on site Wednesday evening to answer the participating students' questions.

2014 Case Studies

Prize/Award

Each chapter represented on the first place teams will receive a plaque (which will bear the name of the participating student and chapter) and a $1,000 cash award.

Eligibility

  • All current BAP members/candidates are eligible to participate. If more than the maximum number of participants are nominated, students will be selected to participate based on the following criteria:
    • Major (ideally we would like to have a mix of accounting, finance, and information system majors). Students with declared double majors should clearly indicate such on the nomination form. Up to 18 non-accounting majors will be selected.
    • Service to BAP (in the event of multiple nominations from the same chapter- members will have priority over candidates; officers will have priority over regular members)
    • Grade point average
    • Statement of Interest
    • Affirmative statement by the student of his/her ability to attend the annual meeting and be able to arrive in time for the opening kickoff session
    • Timeliness of nomination
    • Number of students a chapter has nominated
    • Regional allocation of students ultimately selected

Nomination Process

To participate in PRWI, students must submit a completed nomination form, statement of interest, and confidentiality agreement form. Students will be notified by the PRWI faculty coordinator as to whether or not they were selected between May 12 and May 15. Students not selected will be notified at the same time. Any student placed on the waitlist will be notified of their priority on the waitlist.

Competition Process

Once the participating students are identified and notified of their participation, each will be assigned to one of the three cases. Participants will be notified via email which case they have been assigned. Case information relevant to the issues being presented for the NFPs will be posted to a secure, password protected website, and will be made available to the participants.
