Washington, DC. (August 10, 2018) – The American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) is pleased to announce Jeffrey Deyoe, an undergraduate student at the University of Colorado, Boulder, has been awarded Beta Alpha Psi’s Medal of Inspiration Award. The award was presented today at the Beta Alpha Psi Annual Meeting in Washington, DC.

The award, sponsored by the AICPA, is bestowed upon an accounting student who has experienced extreme hardships and demonstrated an unusually high level of success despite that adversity. The award includes a $5,000 cash stipend.

Today, Jeffrey Deyoe is a high performing student going into his senior year of college. He holds multiple leadership positions and volunteers in several campus activities focused on mental-health awareness. His path to academic success despite years of adversity is what makes him a fitting recipient of this award.

Growing up, Deyoe was raised in a troubled home environment impacted by addiction. Understandably, this negatively affected his performance academically and put his future in question. Jeffrey began to turn his life around after high school, when a close friend’s family opened their home to him - under the condition that he begin attended classes at the local community college. After years of being surrounded by his and his mother’s battle with addiction, Deyoe graduated from community college with a 3.86 GPA.

Despite his many years of struggling and adversity, Deyoe was accepted at the University of Colorado, Boulder in 2017 and is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a dual emphasis in Accounting and Finance.

“To see Jeffrey today, succeeding academically and giving back to his community, one would never know the immense hardships he overcame to get to this point,” said Yvonne Hinson, Association of International Certified Professional Accountants Sr. Director – Academic in Residence. “He is an inspiration to those around him and a reminder of the power of human perseverance in the face of adversity.”

While at CU Boulder, Deyoe has earned a spot on the Dean’s List every semester, serves on the Leeds Council Student Government and is the Pledge Vice President of Finance for Delta Sigma Pi. He is slated to serve as Chapter President of Beta Alpha Psi. Jeffrey is also an active volunteer, participating in a student mentor program while also interning at Stone Pine Accounting at the Denver Tech Center.

“On behalf of the AICPA, I’d like to congratulate Jeffrey on his impressive achievement to date and wish him the best of luck as he completes his education and begins his career,” added Hinson.
