Durham, N.C. – The Outstanding Faculty Advisor Award sponsored by McGladrey LLP was presented to three advisors at the Beta Alpha Psi Annual Meeting in Atlanta, GA on August 8, 2014. Recipients were Marci Butterfield, University of Utah (Epsilon Xi chapter); Cheryl Westen, Western Illinois University (Zeta Beta chapter); and Craig White, University of New Mexico (Theta Xi chapter).

The award recognizes faculty advisors who make substantial contributions to the professional growth and development of business financial information students. Faculty Advisors often work many additional hours to be present at various Beta Alpha Psi meetings, community service activities, firm receptions, member initiations, and to meet with chapter officers to plan for the months ahead.

In addition to being recognized in front of their chapter and their peers, recipients also receive a plaque and a $5,000 cash award from McGladrey in recognition of their achievements.

Beta Alpha Psi Professional Partner and McGladrey Talent Acquisition Manager, Kim McLaughlin said, “This award can only serve as a starting point to show the appreciation these faculty advisors deserve. Many of them work tirelessly to make sure their chapters are successful and their members are receiving the benefits they need to become well-rounded professionals. It is because of these individuals that Beta Alpha Psi continues to be the premier accounting, finance and information systems honor organization that it is today.”

Award winner Cheryl Westen states, “It is an amazing honor to receive the Outstanding Faculty Advisor award.  As a faculty advisor of BAP it has been an incredibly rewarding experience to work with so many outstanding students as they prepare for their careers in accounting. I am thankful for all of my colleagues who help to advise me in this role.”

Thought of as a true acknowledgement of appreciation for all that faculty advisors do, the award has been in place since 1969, when it was first established in memory of Richard E. Claire by the Andersen Foundation. The 2014 Outstanding Faculty Award winners will join 224 of their peers in receiving the distinguished award.
