Durham, N.C. (April 23, 2019) – Beta Alpha Psi recently announced the election of six new members to its Board of Directors. The newly elected Board members are Rita Grant, Barbara Ritter, Alicia Fleri, Steven Mezzio, Michael Mullen, and Michael Brown.
Beta Alpha Psi Executive Director, Margaret Fiorentino, announced “We are very excited about all of the new incoming officers and the knowledge and experience they will bring to our organization.”
Rita Grant, Incoming President-elect – Rita Grant is the Director of the School of Accounting at the Seidman College of Business at Grand Valley State University in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Her teaching interests include Intermediate Accounting and International Accounting. Her research interests include harmonization, family business and financial disclosure issues. She is a member of the American Accounting Association and AAA sections APLG, FAR and TLC. Rita became a member of Beta Alpha Psi as a student at Michigan State University and has been a faculty co-advisor for six years.
Dr. Barbara Ritter, Incoming Dean Representative – Barbara Ritter is the Dean of the E. Craig Wall Sr. College of Business Administration at Coastal Carolina University. She is an expert in the field of organizational behavior and management education with more than 70 publications and presentations in this area. Barbara has experience consulting in the areas of organizational culture, human resource policies, employee satisfaction, selection and promotion, performance appraisal and development, and data collection and analysis, for a variety of organizations such as Valtera Corporation, United Way, GOJO Industries, Timken Industries, Habitat for Humanity, Salvation Army, and Grand Strand Water and Sewer Authority.
Alicia Fleri, Incoming At-Large Director, Information Systems – As the Director of Partner Relations for Xero Americas, Alicia leads a team that delivers world-class education, thought leadership and business resources. These tools empower the accounting and bookkeeping community to live their dream and deepen relationships with their business clients and peers. Xero is the latest example of Alicia’s demonstrated ability to build programs, processes and teams for both small businesses and global corporations. Prior to Xero, Alicia led a practice of accountants and value-added resellers that provided bookkeeping, CFO and advisory services to small business customers. Her practice won several awards for service excellence.
Dr. Steven Mezzio, Incoming At-Large Director, Innovation – Steven S. Mezzio, PhD, CPA, is a former partner with PwC, and is currently a clinical associate professor of accounting, and student advisor for Beta Alpha Psi and the Chess Club for the Pace University Lubin School of Business. In 2018 he was appointed Executive Director of the Center for Excellence in Financial Reporting, and awarded the Faculty Service Award. He serves as National Instructor for the AICPA COSO Certificate Program, Chair, NYSSCPA Future of Accounting Education Committee, and United Nations Sustainability Mindset Committee Member.
Michael Mullen, Incoming At-Large Director, Finance – Michael G. Mullen is an Associate Professor and Director of the Finance program and Entrepreneurship minor in the Meehan School of Business at Stonehill College. Inducted into the Alpha Omega chapter at Fordham University in 1979, he later started the Mu Omega chapter at Stonehill in 2011 and was its lead faculty advisor until 2017. Professor Mullen’s primary areas of teaching are in investment, corporate and entrepreneurial finance. In 2013, he founded the Stonehill College Investment Finance Initiative, an advanced course of study in investment research, analysis and valuation that includes the student run Mary Herlihy Opportunity Fund. He is currently the Managing Director of Tarvos Capital Management, LLC, and maintains a research and consulting arrangement with Bellevue.
Michael Brown, Incoming Professional Partner Chair-elect – Michael Brown is the National Manager of Faculty & Distance Learning with Becker Professional Education and has extensive experience in public accounting, corporate accounting, and education. In his role, Michael manages Becker’s live and online faculty in the United States. He loves to be in the classroom himself and is a national instructor for Becker’s CPA Review Course. He is a licensed CPA in the State of Pennsylvania and is a member of the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He serves as a member of the Schools & Colleges Relations Committee in the Greater Philadelphia Chapter of the PICPA, and was also selected as a member of the 2010-2011 class of “40 Under 40: PICPA Members to Watch”.
Chapter Advocacy Council Incoming 1st Year Chapter Advocates:
Sandra Cereola (Atlantic Coast Region) – Sandra Cereola is an Associate Professor at James Madison University (JMU) and has been a chapter advisor for over 15 years. She is a CPA with an MBA from James Madison University and a PhD from Virginia Commonwealth University. Sandra’s teaching focus includes cost/managerial accounting and information systems at the undergraduate and teaches financial statement analysis and managerial accounting in the Masters of Business Administration Program and Strategic Leadership PhD program. She also teaches the Business Environment and Concepts (BEC) section of the CPA Exam in JMU’s review program.
Cassy Henderson (Southwest Region) – Cassy D. Henderson is currently an Associate Professor at Sam Houston State University. She has been the chapter’s advisor since 2012. The chapter has once hosted the Southwest Regional Meeting and was recognized as a Gold chapter in 2015. She worked in industry prior to joining academia. Her teaching focus is in managerial accounting at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Her research interests lie in information sharing and behavioral accounting.
