Durham, N.C. (February 26, 2020) – Beta Alpha Psi recently announced the election of three new members to its Board of Directors. The newly elected Board members are Scott McQuillan, Raymond Elson, and Valerie Wendt.
Beta Alpha Psi Executive Director, Margaret Fiorentino, announced “We are very excited about all of the new incoming officers and the knowledge and experience they will bring to our organization.”
Scott McQuillan, Incoming President-elect – Scott McQuillan currently serves as a National Talent Acquisition Leader at Deloitte where he is responsible for leading the recruiting efforts for one of the business units. Prior to joining Deloitte over 21 years ago, Scott worked in a variety of roles in higher education including college admissions, academic advising and career services. Scott’s 25+ years of experience has always involved working with college students and assisting with their career exploration and professional development. Scott has been actively involved with BAP at the local chapter, regional and international level for the past two decades which includes serving as the prior Chair of the Professional Partners and on the Board of Directors. Scott is a graduate of Central Michigan University where he earned both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees.
Raymond Elson, Incoming Director of Administration – Raymond J Elson DBA, CPA, CGMA is a professor of accounting at Valdosta State University in Valdosta, GA. His primary teaching areas are in managerial accounting, government and not for profit accounting, and auditing. He has served the organization in a number of capacities including being the founding faculty advisors of the Mu Zeta Chapter at Valdosta State University, the Southeast Chapter Advocate from 2014-2017 including the last year as a member of the board of directors, and as the 2018 annual meeting program chair. He was recognized as one of the BAP/RSM Outstanding Faculty Advisor in 2013.
Valerie Wendt, Incoming Professional Partners Chair-elect – Currently, Valerie Wendt is the CPA Product Manager for Gleim Publications based in Gainesville, Florida. Valerie is a graduate from Saint Leo University in Tampa, Florida with a degree in Business Administration and Management Information Systems as well as holds a Certificate in Project Management from Villanova University. She is a past professional affiliate member of the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants and is the past Secretary and Vice-President of the American Professional Accounting Certification Providers Association. Valerie also served as the Past Chair for the Professional Partners group for the national organization of Beta Alpha Psi and served on its executive board. Valerie is a regular presenter and speaker at many national conferences for both accounting continuing education and CPA Exam preparation. She is also a contributing author to New Accountant Magazine.
Chapter Advocacy Council Incoming 1st Year Chapter Advocates:
Lisa Owens-Jackson (Southeast Region) – Lisa Owens-Jackson, Ph.D., CPA is the Chairperson of the Department of Accounting and Finance in the College of Business and Economics at North Carolina A&T State University. She teaches both financial and managerial accounting in the undergraduate and MBA program. Dr. Owens-Jackson was recognized as the recipient of the 2017 North Carolina Board of Governors Award for Excellence in Teaching. She is the faculty advisor of the Zeta Sigma Chapter of Beta Alpha Psi and was recognized as a 2016 Faculty Advisor of the Year. She is a Certified Public Accountant in North Carolina and Virginia. She has presented at the European Accounting Association Congress, the American Accounting Association Annual Meeting, the Institute of Management Accountants National Conference, the Lean Accounting Conference and many other regional conferences. Dr. Owens-Jackson received her Ph.D. from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma in 2001. She has a BS degree from North Carolina A&T State University and MA degree from The Ohio State University. She resides in Whitsett, NC with her husband, Mr. Randall Jackson.
Mark Judd (Western/Northwest Regions) – Mark Judd is a licensed Certified Public Accountant in the State of California. Currently Judd is clinical professor of accounting in the University of San Diego School of Business. In addition to his teaching duties, he is the chapter advisor of the school's Beta Alpha Psi chapter. Judd's primary teaching interests are in the areas of financial and managerial accounting and auditing. He has also taught international economics, international comparative management and marketing principles in Turin, Italy, at the Univeristá degli Studi di Torino through the Universities Studies Abroad Consortium, a studies abroad program for several American universities based at the University of Nevada. Before entering his career in academia, Judd worked for the international accounting firm, Coopers & Lybrand, as well as a local San Diego CPA firm.
