Chad Kelsey
2nd-year Alumni Advocate

Chad Kelsey serves as the 2nd Year Alumni Advocate on the Board of Directors for Beta Alpha Psi, International. A first-generation college graduate and proud alumnus of the Beta Chi Chapter at San Francisco State University, Chad earned dual degrees in Accounting and Finance. During his tenure as Chapter President, he played a pivotal role in leading professional development initiatives, enhancing chapter operations, and fostering stronger ties with alumni and corporate partners.

Professionally, Chad most recently worked as an Experienced Associate in PwC’s Specialized Tax Services (STS) group, where he focused on Research & Development Tax Credits and Incentives. In this capacity, he conducted technical interviews, led training on IRS qualification tests, and collaborated with stakeholders across engineering, finance, and HR departments to deliver high-value consulting engagements. His experience spans multiple industries, including technology, life sciences, and manufacturing.

Prior to his public accounting career, Chad held management and legislative roles in both the private and public sectors, serving as a Legislative Aide in the California State Assembly and later as an operations lead in mechanical engineering consulting firms. While in the Legislature, he served as a constituent liaison and policy analyst supporting education, local government, and transportation legislation. His responsibilities included drafting constituent responses, analyzing policy proposals, and aligning legislative recommendations with the Assemblymember’s agenda. This experience deepened his understanding of the intersection between public policy and economic development, which continues to inform his interest in tax incentives and regulatory frameworks. In the private sector, he oversaw finance, vendor relations, and digital transformation efforts to improve operational efficiency in small professional services firms.

Chad has also demonstrated leadership in education and community service. As Site Coordinator for the IRS-sponsored VITA Program at SFSU, he led a team that successfully transitioned to remote client services, overseeing the review and submission of nearly 900 tax returns during the pandemic. He continues to support student success and diversity in the profession through mentoring, conference engagement, and promoting inclusive leadership in Beta Alpha Psi.

With a passion for tax policy, education, and nonprofit development, Chad is currently pursuing research in tax incentives and aims to enter academia through a future Ph.D. program in accounting. He is committed to advancing Beta Alpha Psi’s mission of inspiring and supporting excellence in the financial information profession.

Chad encourages students, alumni, and professionals to connect and collaborate in advancing Beta Alpha Psi’s mission. Whether through mentorship, speaking engagements, partnerships, or support for chapter initiatives, there are countless ways to contribute. Together, we can elevate the organization’s impact and empower the next generation of financial information leaders.
